Babits-bibliográfia
A Babits Kutatócsoport története az 1980-as évekre nyúlik vissza. Az Irodalomtudomány Intézet akkori igazgatója, Klaniczay Tibor a szövegkiadások és a filológia megbecsültségének helyreállítása érdekében szorgalmazta a kritikai kiadások megjelentetését, ezért kiemelten támogatta a Babits-kutatás elindítását is. Ennek érdekében hozta létre a Babits Kutatócsoportot, amely előbb közvetlen igazgatói irányítás alá tartozott, majd a 20. századi irodalommal foglalkozó osztály önálló kutatócsoportjaként működött. Idővel a Babits-életmű gondozása kettévált. Az ELTE BTK Modern Magyar Irodalmi Tanszékével kötött megállapodás értelmében a Babits-œuvre elsődleges műfajának, a verseknek kritikai kiadása az intézeti, a többi műfaj feldolgozása az egyetemi kutatócsoport feladata lett, mely utóbb átkerült a Pázmány Péter Katolikus Egyetemre.
A feldolgozandó anyag és a kutatás jellegéből fakadóan kiemelten fontos az intézmények közötti együttműködés hangsúlyozása. Babits Mihály kéziratos hagyatékának legnagyobb része ugyanis három archívumban, az Országos Széchényi Könyvtár, a Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeum és az MTA kézirattáraiban található. A kritikai szövegkiadást megelőző munkálatok, a kéziratok rendezése, katalogizálása, az életmű bibliografikus feldolgozása az említett intézmények közötti együttműködés keretében valósult meg. Ennek köszönhetően 1993-ban megjelent a Babits kéziratos hagyatékát négy kötetben feldolgozó kézirat-katalógus, Melczer Tibor, Cséve Anna, Kelevéz Ágnes, Papp Mária, valamint Nemeskéri Erika munkája, 1998-ban pedig kiadásra került a Stauder Mária és Varga Katalin által összeállított Babits bibliográfia. A kutatócsoport keretében Róna Judit állította össze Babits Mihály életrajzi kronológiáját.
Ezek a segédkönyvek megteremtették a lehetőségét annak, hogy Babits költői életművének kritikai kiadása megindulhasson. A sorozat az eredeti tervek szerint ötéves bontásban adja közre a verseket. 2017-ban a kutatócsoport munkája rég várt fordulóponthoz érkezett. Melczer Tibor munkáját folytatva W. Somogyi Ágnes és Hafner Zoltán gondozásában megjelent a költő gyerekkori zsengéktől 1905-ig tartó, első pályaszakaszában keletkezett verseinek kiadása. Az 1906 és 1910 közötti periódus verseit Kelevéz Ágnes rendezte sajtó alá, mely 2022-ben jelent meg. A sorozat következő két kötetének, valamint Dante Isteni színjátéka fordításának kritikai kiadása az NKFIH által támogatott, K138529 azonosítószámú projekt keretében zajlik, melynek része, hogy a digitális szövegkiadás számára a kötetekben feldolgozott versek és a hivatkozott szakirodalom bibliográfiai adatait online adatbázisban rögzítsük.

The history of the Babits Research Group goes back to the 1980s. Tibor Klaniczay, the director of the Institute for Literary Studies at that time, urged the publication of critical editions to restore the prestige of textology and philology, so he fully supported the idea of launching a textological research on Babits’ work. At the outset, the freshly founded research group was directly subordinated to the director of the Institute for Literary Studies, then as an independent research group, it was associated with the Department of 20th Century’s Literary history. Later on, the work of the research group was shared between two independent, but closely associated subgroups. According to their agreement, the research group based at the Institute for Literary Studies is responsible for the critical edition of Babits’ poems, while the research group based at the Department of Modern Hungarian Literature at the ELTE BTK edits all other texts of various genres.
Given the nature of the material to be processed and the nature of the research, it is essential to emphasize the importance of the inter-institutional cooperation. Most of the manuscripts in Mihály Babits’s legacy can be found in three archives: the National Széchényi Library, the Petőfi Literary Museum and the Archives of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. These three institutions were charged with cataloguing and ordering the manuscripts, but they also undertook the bibliographic processing of the entire oeuvre. Those very precious preliminary works were indispensable before starting the critical edition. Their output manifested in the publication of a manuscript catalog of Babits’ manuscript heritage in four volumes in 1993, by Tibor Melczer, Anna Cséve, Ágnes Kelevéz, Mária Papp and Erika Nemeskéri, and in 1998 the Babits bibliography compiled by Mária Stauder and Katalin Varga. Working within the research group allocated to the Institute of Literary Studies, Judit Róna compiled the biographical chronology of Mihály Babits.
These handbooks served as the necessery preparation for beginning the critical edition of Babits’s poetic oeuvre. The series was originally scheduled to be published in five-year units. In 2017, the work of the research group came to a long-awaited turning point when Ágnes W. Somogyi and Zoltán Hafner published the early poetical works of Babits from his childhood to 1905 (completing the work started by Tibor Melczer). The poems of the period between 1906 and 1910 were edited by Ágnes Kelevéz. The second volume of the series was published in 2022. The next two volumes in the series, along with the critical edition of Dante’s Divina Commedia, are being produced as part of a project supported by the National Research, Development and Innovation Office (NKFIH), with ID number K 138529. For the digital edition, the bibliographic data of the poems included in the volumes, as well as the cited literature, will be recorded in an online database.
