A mű fő része rövid földrajzi bevezetés után Attilával kezdve a vezérek, majd II. Lajos haláláig az uralkodók szerint fejezetekre osztva mondja el a magyar történetet. Szikszai Fabricius Balázs a Historia inclyti Matthiae Hunnyadis előszavában (RMNy 209.) már 1565-ben bejelentette, hogy Heltai Gáspár e Chronica kiadását tervezi. Heltai 1574 második felében bekövetkezett halála miatt a nyomtatás munkáját 1575 elején özvegye fejezte be. (Hungarian)
